Mamata calls on Basu
Kolkata Bureau
KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday called on Communist Party of India (Marxist) patriarch Jyoti Basu at his Salt Lake residence, saying that she wanted to pay a courtesy visit to a senior leader.
Sources said that Mr. Basu congratulated Ms. Banerjee on her win, hoping that the State would benefit by the increased presence of Ministers from West Bengal at the Centre. “You are there at the Centre and I hope the State will get all help,” the ailing leader said.
He also hoped that the Trinamool Congress would play its role of an Opposition.
