Many Indian students studying in Australia have become victims of racial assaults. Nearly one lakh Indian students are studying in Australia. Though the Australian government has set up a taskforce headed by its National Security Advisor, many attacks are going on and the toll of victims has risen to nine within a month. Refusing to give cigarette resulted in the slashing of the chest with a knife and an Indian became a victim of a rude act. Is there no end to this barbaric assault on Indian citizens studying abroad? Banda Nageswara Rao Chirala Laudable initiativeChief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s concern to end corruption and punish corrupt officials is laudable. The Chief Minister is reported to have given a free hand to the ACB and directed it not to spare anyone, however influential and mighty they may be. Of late, the ACB sleuths have been booking a number of cases of disproportionate assets and acceptance of bribes. In this context, one fails to understand as to who will deal with corrupt politicians? Are they exempted from being penalised? I. Subhash Samuel Ulavapadu Flyover neededAmong the various needs of Kavali town, a flyover bridge from fire station to the west side is needed to connect Ramamurthypeta and Christianpet to Vengala Rao Nagar. The Railway authorities should consider the option of granting a halt at Kavali for Sabari and Padmavathi super-fast trains. The menace caused by mosquitoes, pigs and monkeys to the people here needs to be tackled to provide relief . Last, but not the least, underground drainage system too is the need of the hour. Kakuturu Naga Raja Rao Kavali Congrats, Meira!Congratulations to Meira Kumar for being chosen as the first woman Speaker of the Lok Sabha. It is not a hurdle-free journey to ‘man’ the unmanageable honourable members in the House of the People, as experienced by her predecessor Somnath Chaterjee, who wanted to relinquish the position in utter frustration because of the undisciplined, indecent and uncontrollable behaviour of the members. I wish the first woman Speaker of the country all success in her endeavour. S. Vijaya Seshu Kothagudem
