Actor Shiney Ahuja detained on rape charge

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja was on Sunday detained for questioning by the police on the charge of raping his domestic help and is likely to be put under arrest.

“The domestic help, who has been working at Ahuja’s residence in suburban Oshiwara, alleged that the actor had raped her in the afternoon,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Niket Kaushik told PTI.

“We have registered an FIR and called Ahuja to the police station for questioning in the matter to verify the facts,” he said.

The house maid in her complaint has alleged that Ahuja raped her at his residence when they were alone, Mr. Kaushik said.

Additional Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said the maid will be subjected to medical test and the police are yet to reach any conclusion with regard to the charge levied by her against the actor.

However, the senior police official said, the actor, who is detained at the police station till well past midnight on Sunday, is most likely to be arrested soon.

Ahuja is married and is known for his roles in films like ‘Hazaroon Khwaishe Aishi’ and ‘Gangster’. --PTI
