SCR to upgrade surveillance system

Staff Reporter

24 cameras to be installed in a week at Secunderabad railway station

Presently, 21 cameras are installed at different locations

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway (SCR) in its effort to step up security measures at Secunderabad railway station, has decided to upgrade the surveillance system by installing 24 new CCTV cameras with a cost of over Rs.61 lakh.

Presently, 21 cameras are installed at different locations on the station premises and the new cameras, including static and Pan-Tilt- Zoom (PTZ) high-end cameras would be installed in a week.

Hi-tech cameras

These cameras are equipped with internet enabled digital video recorder and display monitors, which are interconnected with data cables.

The Pan-Tilt- Zoom cameras can rotate at 360 degree angle and can be controlled to move left to right, up and down and zoom in and out, up to a range of one km, explains a railway spokesperson.

Data control

The system can store one week’s data and images pertaining to one particular hour of any day and the required data can be traced within minutes.

The system controls are housed at Railway Protection Force (RPF) post in the station. The cameras are already fixed at different locations, including parking lots in the station.

Once the software is received, the cameras would be put into operation in a week, the spokesperson informed.

Proposal

A proposal was sent to the Railway Board seeking permission to upgrade the surveillance system in Hyderabad, Kacheguda and other major railway stations in the State, she added.
