HYDERABAD: The Lok Satta Party received contributions amounting to Rs.3.23 crore during the recent general elections. Disclosing the details in a media conference here on Saturday, party president Jayaprakash Narayan said the party had incurred a total expenditure of Rs.3.16 crore, including Rs.2.25 crore on advertisement in the electronic and print media. The contributions included those from NRIs too. Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan said his own election expenditure from Kukatpally constituency was Rs.4.92 lakhs. “A political party cannot function without resources. Honest politics needs honest money and the party accepted donations only by cheque, accounted for every rupee it spent and placed the facts before the public.” To a question, he said the three traditional parties in the State would have spent Rs.4,000 crore, most of it on inducing voters with cash and liquor during the elections. Five promisesThe Lok Satta would contest the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections with a practical agenda. Its five promises would be to supply safe drinking water in all colonies and basthis without any facility by installing reverse osmosis plants. Implementing a citizen’s charter and penalty on GHMC for its failure to attend to a public grievance, identification and resolutions of problems in basthi, colony and division-wise within time-frame of 100 days, one year and five years respectively, devolution of GHMC funds for each division every year so that an elected divisional committee could spend it on attending to pressing local problems and integration of functioning of GHMC, metro water and Urban Development Authority were its other promises. The Lok Satta would consider an alliance with other parties in the GHMC elections if there was agreement on the agenda for the city and to practice ethical politics.
