CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has launched new schemes aimed at raising the status of persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes and enabling them to lead a respectable and self-reliant life, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here over the week-end. He said although no section of society had remained untouched by the welfare schemes launched and the unprecedented development made during the tenure of his regime so far, yet definitive steps were being taken now to ensure welfare and well-being of the SCs and BCs. Mr. Hooda said the scheme for “Financial assistance for training to Scheduled Caste candidates in the unorganised sector through private institutions” had been launched to provide employment opportunities to the SCs/BCs in the unorganised sector with the help of the private sector. Under the scheme, short-term training programmes are being run with the help of the private sector in several trades and during the training period a stipend is paid to the trainees. The “Creation of employment generation opportunities” scheme had been launched to provide openings to people belonging to the SCs/BCs with annual family income up to Rs.2.5 lakh, he said.
