KOCHI: E. Ahamed, Union Minister of State for Railways, has said that the proposed Angamaly-Sabari rail project was one of the few proposals he discussed with the Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on assuming office. Addressing party activists at a reception organised by the district unit of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) at the AJ Hall near here on Monday, Mr. Ahamed regarded the proposed rail project as a common demand of the people of the State. While welcoming the Minister, the party activists had asked the Minister to exert his influence for the project. Mr. Ahamed, however, struck a note of caution urging the supporters not to expect the project to become a reality overnight. Many hurdles, including technical issues and land acquisition procedures, need to be resolved, he said. The Minister promised to take a close look into all fair demands of the State and undo the injustice meted out to it in the railway sector over the years. Mr. Ahamed criticised the nature of the campaign carried out by the CPI (M) in its effort to seize the IUML bastion of Malappuram. He said that CPI (M) that was bent upon weakening the IUML stands itself shattered.Earlier, delivering the keynote address, M.K. Muneer, State secretary of IUML, said that the very concept of the LDF stands demolished. V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, MLA, presided.
