Acknowledgement: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah being accorded a warm welcome in Mysore on Monday. MYSORE: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah received a rousing welcome from Congress leaders and workers here on Monday on his first visit to the city after assuming charge. The enthusiasm of the workers who had gathered at the toll gate on Mysore-Bangalore Highway was such that even a four-hour delay in Mr. Siddaramaiah’s arrival and heavy rain did not deter them. The city was dotted with cut-outs and flexi-boards of the leader. A 50-ft cut-out of Mr. Siddaramaiah was erected at the toll gate. After extending a “Poornakumbha” welcome, Mr. Siddaramaiah was taken in a procession from the toll gate in a specially designed vehicle named “Muttina Ratha”. The procession passed via Tipu Circle, Fountain Circle, St. Philomena’s Church junction, Chamaraja Wadiyar Circle, and K.R. Circle before reaching the Congress office on Sayyaji Rao Road. President of the party’s city unit C. Dase Gowda presented Mr. Siddaramaiah and H. Vishwanath, MP, with Mysore petas. Mr. Siddaramaiah thanked the workers and assured them that he would try to live up to the faith they had reposed in him. Traffic was paralysed on the Bangalore-Mysore Highway and near the Congress office for some time.
