e-governance needed

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board is yet to implement e-governance in the collection of EB bills.

On some days owing to failure of Internet connectivity, collection of charges at the computerised counters comes to a halt for hours together resulting in long queues, causing hardship to consumers.

It may be noted that online electricity bill payment system for customers of some of the leading banks has been recently introduced in Chennai. Further Any Time Payment for domestic consumers is also in force in collaboration with some banks. Hence, the TNEB may extend the same method to other cities as well.

Improve train services

Tirunelveli is the main hub in the southern districts. The city is already a very important tourist circuit. Moreover, people from this place work in other States. But unfortunately, the train services in Tirunelveli leave a lot to be desired. Till date, there are no direct train services to metros such as Bangalore and Hyderabad from the town.

Minibus service wanted

In Tuticorin Caldwell Colony, mini-bus service from its eastern wing to the arterial Tiruchendur Road was suspended about more than a year ago to expedite the ongoing drainage work.

Hence, steps may be taken to resume suspended service early.
