Assembly Budget session to resume tomorrow

The schedule of demand for grants finalised


The House will have sittings on 25 days

Demands for grants to 51 departments will be taken up


CHENNAI: The budget session of the Assembly will resume on Wednesday and go on till July 21, Speaker R. Avudaiappan announced here on Monday.

Briefing reporters after chairing a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), Mr. Avudaiappan said that demands for grants to 51departments would be taken up during the period. The House would have sittings on 25 days. When the budget was presented in February, it had met for seven days.

At the BAC meeting earlier, the schedule of demand for grants was finalised. Among those present were Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, K.A. Sengottaiyan (AIADMK), S. Peter Alphonse (Congress), K. Arumugam (PMK), N. Nanmaran (CPI-M), V. Sivapunniyam (CPI), T. Sadhan Thirumalai Kumar (MDMK) and D. Ravikumar (VCK). Obituary references would be made on July 17 and there would be no question hour that day.

According to the schedule, Electricity and Personnel and Administrative Reforms would be taken up on June 17. Agriculture – June 18; Public Works (Buildings and Irrigation) – June 19; Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection – June 22; Higher Education – June 23; Home, Prohibition and Excise (Motor Vehicles Acts - Administration) and Transport – June 24; Public Health and Family Welfare – June 25; Municipal Administration and Water Supply and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj – June 26 and June 29; Home, Prohibition-Excise (Prisons), Revenue, Disaster Management and Mitigation and Housing-Urban Development – June 30; Law and Administration of Justice - July 1; Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme – July 2; Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare – July 3; Stamps and Registration, Tourism–Culture and Development, Information and Publicity and Printing and Stationery – July 6; Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, and Commercial Taxes – July 7; Labour and Employment and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment – July 8; Highways and Minor Ports – July 9; Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries – July 10; Industries and Information Technology – July 13; Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles and Khadi and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises – July 14; School Education – July 15; Public, Youth Welfare-Sports Development, Tamil Development and Environment and Forests – July 16; Home, Prohibition-Excise (Police, Fire-Rescue Services, Prohibition and Excise) – July 17 and 20 and State Legislature, Governor-Council of Ministers, Finance, Planning, Development-Special Initiatives and Pension-Other Retirement Benefits – July 21.
