Corrections and clarifications

  • Education in Australia is a $15.5 billion industry, and not $1.5 billion as stated in a report “Australia has responded positively, says Tharoor” (June 15, 2009)

  • The tenth paragraph of an article “The road to justice in Mumbai might well lead from Swat” (Op-Ed, June 15, 2009) referred to the terrorist attacks of November 26-28, 2009. The year should have been 2008.

  • The NCP MP arrested on a murder charge is Padamsinh Patil and not Padamsinha Patil as given in the heading and text of a report “CBI custody extended for Padamsinha” (June 15, 2009).

  • The outlay on defence expenditure for Pakistan has gone up by 15.8 per cent and not by “about 17 per cent” as mentioned in the first paragraph of an article “Pakistan raises defence spending” (June 14, 2009).

  • It is the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, and not 1879, as said in the first paragraph of a report “Woman, son brought back to hospital” (June 13, 2009).

  • A correction for the second time. On January 24, 2009, we had pointed out that another Indian woman, Vanita Rangaraju-Ramanan, was credited with an Oscar in the “Technical – Lighting” category for the animation film “Shrek” (2002). Vanitha’s credit title in the film was “Lighting Technical Director”. This was left out in an article “‘Oscar at 80’” (Friday Review, June 12, 2009).
