‘Good Governance Guards’ for Besant Nagar formed
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: Several residents’ welfare associations and flat owners’ associations at Besant Nagar have come together to form a federation called Good Governance Guards (GGG).
The federation, which held its first meeting on Sunday, decided to start a consumer society offering vegetables, provisions, bakery items and medicines at the doorstep, exclusively for Besant Nagar residents, at rates comparable to wholesale rates.
Hari Radhakrishnan, a member of the federation, said that as a first step towards breaking the cartels formed by big chains, a consumer society engaged in selling vegetables and other household items would be set up.
The residents could order the necessary provisions and vegetables a week in advance and the society would deliver them at their doorstep.
These would be 30 to 40 per cent cheaper than in stores.
A resident has donated an van for transportation. .
The federation proposes to take up civic issues concerning poor conservancy operations and public places being used as a public convenience in Besant Nagar.
Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the members had identified a few areas that were being used as public convenience.
The federation would be actively involved in undertaking tree plantation in the locality. He said: “We want to make Besant Nagar an ideal township in the city.”
