Ahmed’s throat slashed on the dais Accused taken into custody HYDERABAD: A petty quarrel while dancing in a procession taken out at the ‘Valima’ (dinner) led to the murder of a youngster sitting beside the bridegroom on the function hall dais at Musheerabad on Sunday night. Mohd. Wajid, 23, walked on to the dais of Aziz function hall at Indiranagar, went straight to Mohd. Anwar Ahmed, 24, with whom he had a scuffle few minutes ago in the procession and slashed his throat with a knife. Even before the bridegroom Mohd. Ghousuddin, beside whom Ahmed sat, realised what had happened, the latter collapsed on the dais. Wajid slashed the victim’s throat for the second time even as he fell down. Realising that Ahmed was being killed, his friend Mohd. Muneeruddin -who too was on the dais- tried to rescue him. But he stepped back as Wajid lunged at him with the knife inflicting injuries on his hands. Recovering from the shock, others attending the function chased Wajid for some distance, but the accused managed to escape. Ahmed fell unconscious due to profuse bleeding. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Musheerabad Inspector P. Venkataramana said on Monday that Wajid and Ahmed, both residents of Siddiquinagar in Bholakpur, were friends of the bridegroom. “Ahmed and his friends picked up an argument with Wajid when he accidentally hit the former while dancing,” the Inspector explained. Ahmed’s friends held Wajid by his shirt and pushed him away leading to a scuffle but others intervened and pacified them. Wajid left for his home but returned within minutes, murdered Ahmed and fled. He was taken into custody late in the night.
