Three rice shops seized
Staff Reporter
Kakinada: Joint Collector K. Sasidhar has warned that stringent action will be taken against traders who sell superfine rice in excess of Rs. 26 per kg in violation of the agreement reached with rice millers. He stated this in a press release after seizing three rice shops along with a total stock of 108 quintals during inspections on Tuesday. The first shop to be seized was Maharshi Rice Stores at Ramaraopeta, where superfine rice was being sold for Rs. 33 without the dealer Subba Reddy possessing food grain licence. He was also selling sub-standard rice for higher prices. As a consequence, 17.75 quintals of rice was seized and a criminal case booked against the dealer.
Kodandarama Rice and General Stores at Ashok Nagar was seized for doing business without a licence and 40 quintals of rice was impounded. Similarly, Sai Krishna Rice Stores at Gandhi Nagar was seized for non-possession of licence. Fifty quintals of rice was confiscated.
A control room with phone number 0884-6454341 was set up to receive complaints of irregularities.
