Party panel conducts survey Shortage of teachers in BPM School VIZIANAGARAM: “The civic body has failed in providing basic facilities in three municipal high schools that have an overall strength of 2,288 students,” said B.A Babji, district president of Lok Satta Party. ‘No mid-day meal’He said that a seven-member team appointed by the party had conducted a survey on the conditions in the three schools in the town. According to its report, at the Cantonment Municipal High School that has a strength of 478 students mid-day meal scheme is not being implemented at all and there are no toilets for girls and teachers. At B.P.M. School that has 760 pupils on its rolls, there are no benches and toilets. These apart, it has inadequate teacher strength. It requires teachers for Hindi, social studies, Telugu and physical training. The school runs in shifts after the girls sections shifted there. Agencies implementing the mid-day meal are fetching water from outside. Water problemAt the largest Kaspa Municipal High School that has 1,050 students, open defecation on the premises is common as toilets require repairs. With the establishment of Government Junior College in the same school, classes are being conducted under the shade of trees and students are experiencing short supply of drinking water. At a press conference on Tuesday, Mr. Babji said that allocation of grants for schools in the civic body budget was negligible and it showed perception of the powers-that-be in running the educational institutions. Dropout rateHe said that for these reasons the dropout rate in these schools was high.
