Rights panel takes case against medical college

KOZHIKODE: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken two cases in connection with a resident doctor carrying out a pre-surgical procedure on the normal leg of a patient at the Kozhikode Medical College here and the allegation in which tribal girls from Wayanad district were forced to stay without basic facilities in aided schools run by a private educational trust in Kannur district.

Commission chairman Justice N. Dinakar, who took a suo motu case, has also served notices on both the parties. The medical college authorities and educational trust have been asked to give a detailed explanation on the respective issues within June 30.

The Commission, which was in the city on Tuesday to check facilities at old age homes, took up these incidents following reports in the media.

The report on both these incidents would be submitted to the State government, a press release issued from the office of the Commission said here on Tuesday.
