Tenders by July for MSME complexes in Chennai

N. Anand

Work to begin at Guindy, Thirumazhisai

Guindy complex will have 224 modules in three varieties, Thirumazhisai 80 of a bigger size

Two more complexes are planned at Ambattur and Perungudi

CHENNAI: Tenders to execute two flatted factory complexes for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Guindy and Thirumazhisai here would be floated by July, D. Rajendran, chairman and managing director of Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd (TANSIDCO), said. Two more complexes are planned at Ambattur and Perungudi. In the case of the former, government permission is being sought to carry out civil works on land that is being identified. In the case of Perungudi, government help has been sought to identify a site. The three projects, excluding Perungudi, will cost Rs.60 crore.

Initially the foundation stone-laying function was planned in March for the complex in Guindy. However, it had to be postponed as the election dates were announced.

With the elections over, TANSIDCO is gearing to start the process to ensure that the units are ready at least 18 to 24 months from the date of commencement of civil works. On completion, three of the complexes will house over 400 units.

“The Public Works Department revises the rate for each work on April 1 every year. This year it was done just a couple of days back as the poll code norms were in force till the third week of May. Every tender has to go through the process of administrative sanction and technical sanction. Since there is no escalation in the project cost, we need to take only revised technical sanction,” he told The  Hindu on Tuesday.

Mr. Rajendran said separate tenders would be floated to select contractors as the specifications and modules for the complexes differed.

“It will take at least 45 days to finalise the contractors. The civil works will commence by the end of September. All these complexes will have ground floor plus four floors. The Guindy complex will have 224 modules in three varieties, Ambattur 112 modules of a single variety and Thirumazhisai 80 modules of a bigger size,” he said.

The complexes in Guindy and Thirumazhisai are spread over 1.91 acre 1.45 acre respectively.

In the case of Ambattur, an extent of one acre is being sought.
