Latest design silk saris are on display at an exhibition at Cooptex showroom in Kancheepuram. KANCHEEPURAM: A wide range of silk saris, at an affordable cost, are on display at a “designer collection” sari exhibition, which commenced at Kamakshi Cooptex showroom on Gandhi Road here on Monday. Silk saris with pure ‘zari’ content as well as saris with “chemical zari” woven by silk handloom cooperative societies here and elsewhere in Tamil Nadu form part of the products on display at the fortnight-long exhibition, inaugurated by the secretary of S.S.K.V. group of schools, C.K. Raman. Cotton saris, readymade shirts and night wear for women, bedspreads and sheets, pillow covers, dhotis, both ordinary and ‘white silk’ varieties, are also on display. While silk saris woven with “chemical zari” are available at a price range of Rs.2,500 to Rs.15,000 and above, pure ‘zari’ silk saris are available from Rs.5,000 onwards, according to showroom officials. Customers from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh prefer to purchase whole body zari work saris, woven with “chemical zari” in looms at Salem, as these products have the lowest price tag, sources add. The ‘white silk’ dhoti variety is available from Rs.1,500 (with “chemical zari”) and the bedroom cloth materials are also sold at an affordable cost of less than Rs.1,000.
