Second loss for Humpy

NEW DELHI: K. Humpy surrendered to Italy’s Fabiano Caruana in the fourth round of the Ruy Lopez memorial chess tournament at Zafra, Spain, on Tuesday.

Humpy’s second successive loss brought her down to the seventh spot in the eight-player field. She played with white pieces and resigned after 50 moves of Slav Defence.

Overnight leader Ivan Cheparinov drew with Spain’s David Larino Nieto to stay ahead with three points.

The results ( fourth round): K. Humpy (1.5) lost to Fabiano Caruana (2); David Larino Neito (Esp, 1.5) drew with Ivan Cheparinov (Bul, 3); Michael Adams (Eng, 2.5) drew with Julio Granda Zuniga (Per, 1.5); Pia Cramling (Swe, 2.5) bt Manuel Perez Candelario (Esp, 1.5).
