4 workers injured as roof of building caves in

The roof that caved in at Kondithope.
CHENNAI: Four headload workers were injured when the roof of a building on which they were asleep caved in at Kondithope in north Chennai on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the accident happened around 3.30 a.m. The injured, Sabari (30), Manikandan (32), Durairaj (30) and Balraj (35) of Villupuram district, who worked in a lorry shed on the ground floor, were caught in the debris and suffered injuries.
They were rescued by the nearby residents who heard their cries. The victims were admitted to the Government General Hospital, where their condition is said to be stable.
The building is owned by Balaraman (45) of Ramasamy Street in Kondithope, the sources added.
The Elephant Gate police have registered a case.
A senior police official said expert opinion would be sought to assess the structural stability of the building. The focus of the investigation will be on whether there were inadequacies in ensuring safety of workers.
