Congress seeks apology from Mayawati

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday demanded that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to apologise for her comment calling Mahatma Gandhi natakbaaz [fake] and said she should take back her words.

Party spokesman Manish Tewari said the Bahujan Samaj Party leader should exercise restraint in her speeches. He said her remark hurt the sentiments of all those who continued to be inspired by Gandhiji’s philosophy and seek to model their lives on it. Asked about the party viewpoint since BSP is extending support to the Mamohan Singh government, Mr. Tewari said the Congress was aware of it.
