Detained under Goondas Act

SALEM: The Salem city police detained a person under Goondas Act for his involvement in a number of offences.

The police arrested Susindran for his involvement in the abduction of an engineering student. He along with his associates abducted the student and demanded a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh. They also snatched a gold chain, watch and cash Rs. 520. The police arrested him and recovered the gold chain, mobile phone and Rs. 300 from him. On instructions from Inspector General of Police and City Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Singh, the police detained Susindran under Goondas Act.

Killed

A youth was killed when an unidentified vehicle hit his motorcycle here recently. The police said Kumar (19) of Ponnammapet was returning home after visiting Salem, when the accident took place. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Salem Government medical college hospital, where he succumbed to wounds.

A case was registered in this connection.
