BHOPAL: Vivid hues of tribal art, life and culture from all over the world will find expression on the silver screen as the International Festival of Films on Tribal Art and Culture begins here this Friday. The three-day festival will showcase 60 films and documentaries from over 40 countries including India, Argentina, New Zealand, the US, Romania, Burkina Faso, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Zibuti, Nigeria and Egypt among others. “The first edition of the festival was organised in Indore, which is a Bhil tribal belt, while this time round it is being organised in Bhopal, which is a Gond belt; it used to be the capital of Gondwana,” says Shriram Tiwari, Director, State Department of Culture. “The idea is to organise the festival in the tribal belts of the State in order to represent and promote the various strands of tribal cultures that exist in these belts,” he explains. The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan while Union Tribal Affairs Minister Kantilal Bhuriya will be the chief guest.
