Nagercoil: Heavy rain lashed some parts of the district for the second day on Thursday bringing cheers to the farming community and giving hardship to school and office goers. Fishermen in different parts of the district did not venture in to the sea for the third day on Thursday. Seawater entered in to more than 40 houses in eight villages between Erayammanthurai and Neerodi. Thunder struck more than five houses in Poothurai and Vallavilai coastal villages. However, no one was injured. As the sea was rough the fishermen put sand bags on the shore to prevent water from entering in to the villages. The body of a 30-year-old man was washed ashore in Kanyakumari. But, the police could not ascertain his identity. Similarly Manoj Kumar (38) – belonged to Kumarakovil near Thuckalay was found in an unconscious stage at Thiruveni Sangamam. On information police rushed to the spot and shifted him to the Government hospital. After treatment, Manoj told the police that he went to Kanyakumari to offer prayers at Kanyakumari Bhagavathy Amman temple. Amount of rainfallThe maximum rainfall of 12 mm was recorded at Pechipparai and 12.3 mm in Munchiravilai. The water level in Pechipparai dam stood at 35.90 feet, 39.65 feet in Perunchani, 7.28 feet in Chittar I and 7.38 feet in Chittar II.
