Coimbatore: Collector P. Umanath has announced that genuine family card holders under the Public Distribution System (PDS) for whom the supply of essential commodities was stopped could prefer a fresh appeal in writing to the District Supply Officer at Collectorate and could submit the same either to the Assistant Rationing Officers/Taluk Supply Officers or at the office of the District Supply officer at Collectorate on or before June 30. In a release, the appeal should be enclosed with a proof of residence i.e., voters ID card, bank pass book, in the event of a rented house a letter from the house owner, property tax receipt, telephone bill copy or a gas cylinder receipt copy. MP’s appealMeanwhile, Coimbatore MP, P.R. Natarajan, has urged the Collector to withdraw the idea of stopping supply to PDS card holders.
Mr. Natarajan said that verification of PDS family cards were taken up in July 2008 and these cardholders were availing supply even after verification. In November 2008, stop supply orders were issued in respect of 1,10,000 cards and many of the cardholders had preferred an appeal against the decision. Most of the affected cardholders were those living in rented houses and who had changed houses. When these card holders apply for change of address, the taluk offices take a number of months to give effect to the change.
