Damra port being developed at a cost of Rs. 2,464 cr. Central clearances for port being developed at Kirtania BHUBANESWAR: Orissa government on Friday said four new ports being promoted by private companies along State’s coast were at different stages of implementations and Dhamra Port could become operational by 2010. Replying to queries in State Assembly here, Minister of State for Commerce and Transport Sanjib Kumar Sahoo said Dhamara Port Company Limited (DPCL) jointly promoted by Tata Steel and infrastructure major L&T was making progress in the construction phase. DPCL was working on dredging of 18 km-long channel, setting up galvanized tower for supplying 132 KV electricity, excavating a reservoir, creating material handling area and constructing railway line and roads. The company proposed to invest Rs. 2,464 crore on the project. Similarly, Creative Ports Development Private Limited Company had given schedule for 1215 acres and the State government had taken initiative to hand over land to the company for development port at Kirtania on Subarnarekha Mouth, the Minister said the State Assembly. The private developer, meanwhile, received scooping clearance from the Union government while environment impact assessment for the project was nearing completion. At the same time, it applied the Ministry of Environment and Forest for environmental clearance, he said. An estimated investment of Rs. 2,187 crore was envisaged for the project. Astaranga portNabyug Engineering Company Limited submitted techno-feasibility report with the State government for setting up port at Astaranga in Puri district. It approached East Coast Railway to extend the project a rail link, Mr. Sahoo said on Friday. The port would be built with approximate investment of Rs. 3,500 crore. Moreover, Gopalpur Ports Limited Company which signed a memorandum of understanding with the State government in 2006 to convert the fair weather port to all weather port completed its first phase of project. The company was also receiving cargo, the Minister said. The developer had initially proposed to spend Rs. 720 crore, but now it informed that capital investment would touch Rs. 2000 crore, Mr. Sahoo said. Port policyLocations of these four ports were among 13 sites along Orissa coast which was identified for development of ports. The State government has already formulated a port policy inviting private companies to make investments in those projects.
