KORAPUT: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik rushed to Koraput on Friday to review situation in Narayanpatna block of the district. Maoists had killed nine persons, including eight personnel of the Orissa Special Striking Force (OSSF), by triggering a landmine near Narayanpatna on Thursday. Apart from the Maoist activity the violent activities of the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS) has also kept the Narayanpatna block tense for more than a month.

“Action plan will be prepared to restore peace in Narayanpatna and elsewhere,” said Mr Patnaik, who also holds Home portfolio.

The Chief Minister paid tributes to nine victims of the landmine blast. He was accompanied by Director General of Police (DGP) M.M. Praharaj Sudhansu Sarangi. Mr. Patnaik held a long discussion with top ranking administrative and police officials regarding the situation in the district especially in the Narayanpatna block. This meeting was attended by the DGP, IG, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) Satyabrata Sahu, Koraput Collector Bichitrananda Das, Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Kumar, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Sanjeev Panda among others. The discussion continued for over three hours.

Later speaking to newsmen, Mr. Patnaik said the present activities of the naxals and Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh would be countered through a proper action plan. He added that the efforts were on to solve the land related tussles and problems in Narayanpatna and he had held discussions with the RDC and other revenue officials of the district regarding it.

Arrangements were made to send the bodies of martyr jawans to their home, police sources said. The road communication to Narayanpatna block still remained cut off from the district headquarters due to panic and road blockades. However, no untoward incidents were reported from the area.
