Child hospitalised, dies

Chennai: A two-year-old boy brought to the Government Children’s Hospital in Egmore on Tuesday with complaints of ingesting kerosene, died on Wednesday afternoon.

According to hospital sources, Kaushik was brought from Avadi. His parents said he consumed kerosene stored in a plastic bottle. But his lungs were damaged, leading to brain damage, doctors said.

Accidental ingestion of kerosene by children is a common complaint during summers as children mistake the fuel stored in plastic bottles for water, hospital authorities said.
