Tuticorin: An inspection was carried out in the pitline in Tuticorin Kelur railway station on Thursday ahead of the proposed extension work to augment the services for passengers.

K.K. Sharma, Chief Engineer (Construction), Southern Railway, along with a team visited the railway station and inspected the works being maintained on the pitline for appending three more bogies to trains plying between Tuticorin, Chennai and Mysore.

The maintenance works expected to be carried out included gate walk, improvement of construction arrangements in the old buildings and lighting facilities in pitline. Sources said that the express trains were bound for various destinations from Tuticorin had only 21 bogies for a long time now and the proposed new initiative of taking the cue to establish a 24-bogie train would be beneficial to passengers.
