5 killed as man goes berserk

PUDUKOTTAI: Five persons, including two women, were murdered by a man in Melasivapuri village near here on Friday.

The police said that R. Marudhupandi (38), went berserk in the morning. Using a wooden log, he attacked villagers who were walking on the road, causing grievous head injuries.

While M. Sukumari (40), A. Saroja (65) and P. Pazhaniappan alias Mani (76) died on the spot, M. Gopal (70) a watchman, and M. Azhagan (55), a cyclist selling mangoes, succumbed to injuries in Government Hospital. Sigappi (65), who sustained injuries on her hand, is undergoing treatment.
