TIRUCHENGODE: Chief Justice of Madras High Court H.L. Gokhale has appealed to lawyers to perform their duties properly and serve the litigant public. Inaugurating the Additional District Munsif Court here on Saturday, he said people were expecting a lot from the judicial system. Lawyers should co-operate for the speedy delivery of justice. They should avoid unnecessary protests and enable the courts to function smoothly. LitigantsThe litigant public should not be left to suffer because of unnecessary protests. Tamil Nadu has produced a number of eminent lawyers. The young lawyers should try to follow in their footsteps, the Chief Justice said. The court conditions had been improved and steps were being taken up to bring in more improvements. The judiciary would initiate appropriate measures to address the requirements of the lawyers, the Chief Justice said. High Court Justice M. Jaichandren said tremendous research had been done on the issue of pendency of cases and steps had been taken up to speed up the disposal of pending cases. Judicial officers and advocates should work together to take justice to the doorsteps of the poor and the needy, he said. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S. Gandhiselvan, Namakkal Collector U. Sagayam and Principal District Judge S. Kalavathy also spoke.
