MES founder remembered

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Wayanad M.I. Shanavas has said that the Congress cannot change its policies as per the demands of caste-based organisations.

He was inaugurating the 25th commemoration of P.K. Abdul Gafoor, the founder of Muslim Educational Society (MES), in Kozhikode on Monday.

However, he added, pressure groups and caste-based outfits had their right to voice grievances.

“Congress always sticks to its basic tenet of secularism, though the party has always maintained a good relationship with religious and caste-based organisations,” the MP said.

Presiding over the function, Fazal Gafoor, MES president, condemned the “trend to consider caste as a criterion even in the selection of ministerial candidate.”
