dated June 22, 1959 ( there being no issue dated June 23, 1959): Indians in Ceylon

The Ceylon Prime Minister, Mr. Solomon Bandaranaike, told the visiting Indian newsmen in Colombo on June 21 that he proposed to take up with Prime Minister Nehru at an early date the problem of citizenship of Indian settlers in the island and reach a satisfactory solution. He said that there were about eight lakh Indian settlers in the island the bulk of whom, were plantation workers. About 100,000 to 150,000 of these people had already gained Ceylon citizenship, he added.
