Train from Tiruvarur to Chennai

A large number of people travelling every day from Tiruvarur to Chennai have to depend only on bus service, as there is no direct train. I request the Railways to introduce an express train from Tiruvarur to Chennai via Nidamangalam, Thanjavur and Tiruchi immediately.

Baby M. Venkataraman,

Long halt for train

Recently I travelled by Nagore-Tiruchi Passenger train which left Nagappattinam by 12.30 pm. The train reached Tiruvarur by about 1.20 pm and resumed its journey to Tiruchi nearly after an hour. It is really surprising why the train was halted at Tiruvarur for such a long time. The authorities should change the train timings so that the halting time is not more than 10 minutes.

Auto fare

There is hardly any difference between one auto rickshaw driver and another when it comes to their attitude towards passengers. The fares charged are arbitrary and exorbitant with the meter being an idle appendage. Making more money disproportionate to the distance covered is their aim. When in other southern states auto drivers keep the meter ticking and collect the right fare why not Tamil Nadu follow suit? It is high time the authorities concerned came down heavily on errant auto drivers and ensure that charges were collected as per meter reading.

Signals out of order

In Thanjavur, traffic has been increasing every day. Traffic signals are installed in most of the places in the city. But majority of the signals are out of order. I request the officials concerned to ensure proper functioning of the signals for free flow of traffic.

Ban online trading

The main task before the new Government at the Centre is to bring down the prices of essential commodities. For this, the government should slap a ban on online trading.

Supplementary examination

The Directorate of Government Examinations, Chennai, is conducting immediate supplementary examinations in June/July for unsuccessful students of Plus Two and X Standard up to 3 subjects. It is very unfortunate that the official web site of the DGE, http://dge.tn.gov.in, do not contain the re-examination schedule. Hence, I request authorities concerned to initiate necessary steps to make the supplementary examination Schedule available on the site and provide all relevant information on it for the benefit of the students.

Counting machine for post office

A cash counting machine as provided to the banks may be provided to the savings bank counter of the Kumbakonam Head Post Office, since hand counting proves to be a time consuming process. Due to the hand counting of currency, customers have to wait for a long time.

Relay damaged roads

The road widening work in the Tiruchi–Thanjavur section is progressing at a snail’s pace, the existing road stretches in various places, particularly near the SASTRA University, are in a bad condition. This causes much hardship to the vehicle users. I request the NHAI authorities to do temporary relaying of these stretches with immediate effect.

V. Murugesan,

Thanjavur.
