KOLLAM: The Kollam police on Monday launched a ‘vanitha helpline’ facility in the district. It will function from the Kollam East Police Station complex. This is part of a government scheme to have control rooms exclusively for attending to complaints from women, Superintendent of Police (Kollam) K. Sanjay Kumar said. The helpline can be accessed on the toll-free number, 1098. A special police team had been deputed to attend to complaints lodged through the helpline, he said. The team will operate in coordination with the respective local police stations. As part of this arrangement, nine complaint boxes had been placed at various places in the city. Women can drop complaints in these boxes as well. The boxes will be cleared each day and follow-up action will be taken, Mr. Sanjay Kumar said.
