A thanksgiving budget: Sheila

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Describing the Delhi Budget 2009-10 as a “thanksgiving budget”, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday expressed confidence that it would fulfil the expectations of every citizen of the Capital.

Ms. Dikshit said she hoped that the budget would help in speeding up ongoing projects relating to the upcoming Commonwealth Games and improve the quality of life of the Capital’s citizens.

Re-affirming her government’s commitment to providing due assistance to destitute women, senior citizens and physically and mentally challenged persons, the Chief Minister said: “The people of Delhi really deserve a friendly budget. We have expressed our gratitude to the people for imposing their faith in the Government consecutively for the third time. Housewives would be very happy as no change has been effected in the ongoing subsidy on LPG. The Government has enhanced tax only on tobacco with an aim to make the city a smoke-free one.”
