Relatives accuse police of refusal to register complaint

The girl went missing on Sunday evening

Bangalore: The body of a three-year-old girl, who went missing from her house in J.J. Nagar on Sunday evening, was found in a sump of a vacant house here on Monday morning.

The girl’s family, hailing from Tamil Nadu, was staying in a rented house at Markandeya Nagar near Binny Layout.

According to family members, Harshita was playing near her house around 6 p.m. on Sunday and suddenly went missing. The parents along with their relatives and friends searched for the child till night.

On Monday morning, the body of the girl was found floating in a sump of a vacant house at Markandeya Nagar. Relatives suspect that the girl might have fallen into it while playing.

The relatives of the victim alleged that the J.J. Nagar police refused to register a missing complaint on Sunday evening. “We searched for the child till night. When our efforts went in vain, we visited the police station to lodge a complaint. However, the J.J. Nagar police suggested that we wait for a day and refused to register a complaint. We found the body on Monday morning,” said a relative who wished to remain anonymous.

However, the police have denied the allegation. “No one visited the police station on Sunday. I was in the station till 11 p.m.,” J.J. Nagar Circle Inspector Kodanda Rama said.

“The girl might have fallen into the tank and drowned. A case has been registered and we are investigating,” he said.
