NEW DELHI: Angry locals vandalised and tried to set afire the Inderpuri police station on Monday night alleging that a woman was criminally assaulted there by some policemen.

Trouble erupted around 10 p.m. when a group of area residents attacked the police station. They pelted stones at the policemen and set a motorcycle on fire outside the police station. The agitated locals also allegedly pelted stones at passing-by vehicles.

The situation was brought under control after extra force was deployed in the area.

According to the police, the crowd was instigated by a man who allegedly ran a betting racket in the area. The local police were in search of him and had reportedly questioned his wife on Sunday.

She later alleged that she was criminally asasulted by some policemen inside the police station.
