dated June 24, 1959: Tributes from London

Prominent figures in British public life paid tributes to the late Mr. Kasturi Srinivasan, Editor of The Hindu. Sir Christopher Chancellor, Lord Astor, President of the Commonwealth Press Union and Mr. John Turner of Reuters, London, are among those who have sent messages. Mr. Philip Noel-Baker, who was Secretary of State for Common-wealth Relations in the Labour Government from 1947 to 1950 said: “I deeply regret the news of the death of Mr. Kasturi Srinivasan. In all the many offices which he held and in the positions he held in the Indian Press and the international Press, he played a leading and most distinguished part. As Editor, he made The Hindu of Madras one of the outstanding newspapers of the world. Britain will remember the part he played in creating the bonds of friendship between our two countries after 1947.”
