U.K. expels Iranian diplomats

Hasan Suroor

LONDON: In a dramatic escalation of diplomatic tensions, Britain on Tuesday expelled two Iranian diplomats in retaliation against Tehran’s expulsion of two British diplomats on Monday.

Iran had accused them of fomenting the post-election turmoil. Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Iran’s allegations were “absolutely without foundation”. Tory leader David Cameron supported the decision saying Iran’s move was “not acceptable and Britain should respond.” The names of the two diplomats were not disclosed.
