NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has pulled up a woman complainant and her mother for levelling false allegations against her husband and his family in a case of alleged harassment for dowry in the Karol Bagh area of Central Delhi. The Court was hearing applications for regular bail moved by the husband of the complainant, his sister and her husband. In their bail applications, counsel for the accused submitted that articles given in dowry had been returned to the complainant and she was also being given money for her day-to-day expenses by her husband. However, the complainant and her mother opposed their submission alleging that they had returned none of the articles given in dowry. They further alleged that the articles were with the sister and brother-in-law of the complainant’s husband. However, their falsehood was exposed when the investigating officer of the case on being asked by the Court submitted that he had brought all the articles mentioned by the complainant as given in dowry to the police station following a search of the house of the complainant’s husband and handed them over to her. The Court pulled up the complainant observing that the allegations levelled by her did not sound credible. Thereafter the complainant’s mother alleged that her estranged son-in-law had not returned gold jewellery worth over Rs.1.5 lakh given at the time of marriage to her daughter. The Court upbraided her on this count as well observing that her economic condition did not support her claim.
