BHUBANESWAR: Culture, Tourism and Higher Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra has endorsed the view that Indian culture and spiritualism have the power to heal the growing disharmony in life of an individual and in the contemporary society as well.

Inaugurating the Maarg festival of dance, music and meditation at Rabindra Mandap here on Monday hosted by city-based socio-cultural organization Sparsh, Mishra hailed the mission behind the festival in integrating Indian classical dance and music with yoga and spiritualism.

The festival will be an annual affair for Orissa and it would strive to help people live a stress-free life through practice of Surya yoga and by attending to recitals of Indian classical dance and music, explained Sindhu Brown, the festival director from Bengaluru.

The festival featured group Odissi dance performances by the internationally acclaimed Rudrakshya troupe of Guru Bichitrananda Swain, city-based Italian Odissi dancer and choreographer Ileana Citaristi’s Art Vision troupe and Cuttack-based dancer Meera Das’ Gunjan Dance Academy.

Besides, young soloist Geetanjali Acharya, who emerged as the Naveen Kalakar national Odissi dance competition topper this year, was also featured.

Among others, eminent singer Pranab Patnaik, Surya yoga exponent Surya Swami and secretary of the Orissa branch of Red Cross Society were present.
