Indian team’s tour may be delayed

NEW DELHI: The Indian football team’s trip to Dubai and Spain for the proposed training stint may get delayed as the players are yet to get visa for the tour.

The application for visa was submitted on Monday and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) is hopeful that the team will be able to leave as soon as possible.

The side was scheduled to depart for Dubai on Thursday night.

“There was some documentation from the sponsors after which we submitted the visa application. We hope to get it tomorrow or day after tomorrow,” AIFF Secretary Alberto Colaco said on Wednesday.

Mr. Colaco, however, rejected notions that there was any delay from the Sports Ministry in sanctioning the grant for the tour.

“They are working on this and it will take some time. They have been very helpful,” he said.

The team will travel to Dubai where the players will train before moving to Spain on July 7. The Indian side will practice in Barcelona and play a few matches against lower division clubs as part of its preparations for the Nehru Cup. — Sports Reporter
