Honorary doctorate conferred on former Himachal Governor

HYDERABAD: Former governor of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh V.S. Ramadevi on Wednesday highlighted morality, humanity, and revival of respect for human values as the watchwords in solving the contemporary problems and proceeding towards attainment of the ‘Second Renaissance’.

Delivering her address here as the chief guest on the Eleventh convocation of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Dr. Ramadevi emphasised that the world must be built on the “strength of moral fibre, human values, global peace and the nobility of human soul as envisaged in the teachings and sayings of our ancient priests, poets and enlightened souls rather than on sheer economic prosperity.” K.V. Krishnarao, former chief of army and former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, and Mizoram, was the first to receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) from the University’s Chancellor and Governor N.D.Tiwari. Dr. Ramadevi followed him, while the others to receive honorary doctorates included litterateur Velchala Kondal Rao, Carnatic music exponent Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, eminent theatre person Chatla Sriramulu, Sculptor Aekka Yadagiri Rao, literary critic Vadali Mandeswara Rao, and writer Rapaka Ekambaracharyulu. In all, 1,119 candidates from schools of Literature, Comparative Studies, History, Culture and Archaeology, Language Development, Fine Arts, Social and other sciences received degrees and diplomas at the convocation.
