‘Indiscriminate’ ACB raids decried

HYDERABAD: Confederation of Revenue Earning Departmental Associations, Andhra Pradesh has decried what it termed ‘unscientific, uncultured and rude methods’ adopted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths during the raids against public servants in disproportionate assets cases.

Submit memo

Perturbed over the rise in ACB raids on government staff in the recent times and Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s directive to the ACB to step up drive against corrupt officials, a delegation of the Confederation submitted a memorandum on Wednesday seeking suitable reforms in the functioning of the sleuths.

Confederation chairman K. R. Surayanarayana, convenor P. Nooka Raju and co-chairman S. M. Rajeswara Rao recalled that the government had issued an order last year restricting the arrests of officials in disproportionate assets cases.

Interim stay

The order was challenged and an interim stay was issued. They wanted the government to instruct the Advocate General to defend the order by projecting the spirit behind it.

Reputation at stake

They lamented that the harm to the reputation of public servants was at stake during the ACB raids.

They pointed out that the amended provisions of section 41 of CRPC should be used in respect of disproportionate assets cases at first instance instead of arresting public servants without any prima-facie and any established guilt in the case.
