This Day That Age
The Transport Development Council, at its concluding session in New Delhi on June 25, discussed the need for a more rapid development of roads in the country. The Council felt that the Central as well as the State Government should take into account the growing requirements of agriculture, defence, commerce and industry in preparing their plans for road development. The Union Minister for Transport and Communications, Mr. S.K. Patil, said that he appreciated that at this stage it was not possible for the Planning Commission to allocate resources for different sectors of the Plan, but proposals for road development could be worked out on the basis of the 20-year plan drawn up by the chief engineers.
