Drug formulary released

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The second edition of the Kerala State Drug Formulary was released here on Thursday by Health Minister P. K. Sreemathy.

The book should be an easy reference guide for doctors, especially those working as primary care physicians, Ms. Sreemathy said.

The drug formulary gives information on essential drugs that should be part of primary care, so that a doctor can provide effective treatment.

The generic names of drugs, its indications and contra-indications are all listed to help doctors in rational prescriptions, sources said.

Guidelines

The book also contains guidelines on managing important medical emergencies and the list of essential drugs to be stocked at government hospitals.

Details of the national programmes implemented through the State Health Services are also listed in the book.

Ms. Sreemathy commended the efforts of Drug Formulary Committee chairman K.V. Krishna Das and convener Reneega Gangadhar in compiling the book.
