Study hours mooted in junior colleges

Staff Reporter

Moved aimed at improving standards in government colleges

Meeting of principals in Anantapur chalks out measures to improve results

‘Anantha Aanimuthyalu scheme flopped due to poor standard of students’

ANANTAPUR: Special study hours would be introduced in government, aided and residential junior colleges in the district to improve the standard of students. It was decided to implement one special study hour before the commencement of college hours and two hours after the college every day to improve the performance of students.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the principals held here on Wednesday by Regional Intermediate Officer Kristappa.

The principals were told to complete admissions by July 31 and commence classes for the second year students from July second week. They were also directed to strictly implement the decisions taken at the meeting like conduct of weekly and monthly tests to review the comprehension of the students, complete syllabus by December-end and take up revision and exam preparation from January.

District Tribal Welfare Officer Pratibha Bharati sought to know why a majority of students who were extended financial assistance to pursue Intermediate course in corporate, private and government junior colleges under ‘Anantha Aanimuthyalu’ scheme last year failed. Several principals explained that high school education standards of most of the beneficiaries of the scheme were very poor and they could get into the scheme only due to ‘irregularities’ in the conduct of SSC examinations as the district administration was bent upon improving the pass percentage rather than education standards of students.
