Bangalore: Akshay Goel (35), a doctor serving with the Indian Air Force in Mumbai, was detained and questioned by the police and the Central Industrial Security Force at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) on Thursday evening. According to sources, Dr. Goel was supposed to fly by a SpiceJet flight (SG529) to Mumbai, scheduled to take off at 7.05 p.m. Sources said by the time he reached the airport, the boarding gates were closed. He argued with the flight attendants at the counter to let him check in and board the flight. When they refused, he asked them for the pilot’s mobile phone number. He then called the pilot in front of everyone and claimed that a bomb had been planted on board. The flight was rescheduled and all passengers were asked to go through security check again. It is said that the flight was delayed by over two hours. Later, the police and CISF personnel arrested Dr. Goel after a complaint had been filed by BIA authorities, said Basavaraj Malagaatti, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East).
