KOLKATA: Women Fide Master Swati Mohota won the 35th Bengal state women’s chess championship here on Friday finishing the seven-round Swiss league with 6.5 points. Top seed Supriya Majhi followed the second seed at 5.5 and Sukanya Dutta was third with five points. Top seed Bitan Banerjee lived up to the expectations by winning the title in the 37th junior State championship by collecting 6 points. Sayan Bose, Amritesh Roy and Diptanu Das all finished with five points each but better progressive score gave Bose the second place. Roy ended third and Das was fourth. Diptayan Ghosh won the 32nd sub-junior state meet title by finishing with 5.5 points. Fide Master and second seed Sayantan Das was second with five points while Aubhropratim Manna was third. Das, Manna and fourth placed Rishav Mitra were all tied at five points but better progressive score gave Das the second place and Manna the third spot. Grandmaster Neelotpal Das distributed the prizes. — Special Correspondent
